Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. It causes whiteheads, blackheads or pimples. Effective acne treatments are available, but acne can be persistent.

Cystic acne is when you have large, red, painful breakouts deep in your skin. Pimples start when a pore in your skin gets clogged, usually with dead skin cells. Bacteria can also get trapped, causing the area to become red and swollen. Cystic acne happens when this infection goes deep into your skin, creating a bump that's full of pus.

These scars appear as small indentations in the skin. Icepick scars are small scars that look like pinpricks. Boxcar scars are larger indentations with clear edges. Rolling scars have unclear edges and give the skin a rolling or undulating appearance. They occur when the skin does not make enough fibroblasts in the healing process. Fibroblasts are cells that play a crucial role in wound healing and collagen production.

These occur when the skin makes too many fibroblasts as the acne spot heals, causing a raised scar. - Keloid scars
These are similar to hypertrophic scars but tend to be thicker than the original acne spot. There is often hyperpigmentation, making them darker than the surrounding skin. They may be red or brown.

Telangiectasias, also known as spider veins, are small dilated blood vessels that can occur near the surface of the skin or mucous membranes, measuring between 0.5 and 1 millimeter in diameter. Cherry angiomas, are common skin growths that can develop on most areas of your body. They're also known as senile angiomas or Campbell de Morgan spots. They're usually found on people aged 30 and older. The collection of small blood vessels inside a cherry angioma give them a reddish appearance.

Poikiloderma is a skin condition that consists of areas of hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, telangiectasias and atrophy. Poikiloderma of Civatte is most frequently seen on the chest or the neck, characterized by red colored pigment on the skin that is commonly associated with sun damage.

It is a rough, scaly patch on the skin that develops from years of sun exposure. It's often found on the face, lips, ears, forearms, scalp, neck or back of the hands. Before treatment of raised skin lesions, it is recommended to have them cleared by your healthcare provider before having a treatment to remove them.

Melasma typically darkens and lightens over time, often getting worse in the summer and better in the winter.
